Implement health gating

There should be no such thing as one-hit kills at any level. If health gating (à la Borderlands 2 & 3) was added to the game, it would alleviate several of pain points. It would also restore a sense of fairness & actual skill, being that players would actually have a chance to react.

Death would still be a certainty to those whose builds are insufficient. You could even increase the threshold 75% or more health required for health gating to activate, instead of 50% as borderlands has it, and add a cooldown period.

Spamming health potions will also not save you if trying to brute forcing pinnacle content, since you would quickly run out of stock and be unable to heal at all.

Bumping for new season. I believe this could only be a positive & I can't think of any real cons. Thoughts on this?
I’ve actually thought about this many times as well. I feel like the health gating mechanic from Borderlands could work pretty well in POE.
V rising could teach these guys a few things about balanced combat.

Their math always gets away from them and it turns into an arms race to the bottom of creativity.
Health gating as a concept seems cheap and gimicky. I think of it as an extremely strong and free passive. it also makes the game much easier, which isnt exactly a good thing. How would it even work on bosses? you just get a freebie getting hit when you fail a mechanic?

Bad idea imo and I wouldn't be surprised if there are other people who think so who dont want to post their opinions because going against an idea like this is sure to make certain people angry.

POE is meant to be brutal, and you are meant to overcome the challenge through sheer character power, stats, and loot. Not a cheap free get out of jail card for free.

If you dont want to be one shot, then you should get better stats, gear, or build. If a certain _thing_ is one shotting players too often, then that thing should be nerfed. If those arent feasible, there is either a problem with the game being too stingy with those things, or not giving you good enough options to become stronger, or its you, all of those things could theoretically be fixed through updates and self-improvement without a "health gate"

One shot by telegraphed red boss attack = get good.
One shot by random mob = put less mods on your map.

Or bad gear/build.

I want to play poe, not borderland. Poe never been here to be "fair", you have plenty of other ARPG for this. And still, if you have enough knowledge, it's totally fair. It's just "not free".

I'm for it. One shots in my opinion are no good at all if you can't build resist to cancel it and can't see it from telegraphing. It's just cheap if it is some random attack that could be coming out at any amount of speed from possibly multiple enemies at the same time, or from some dumb lingering effect after all the enemies died.

Health gating isn't going to save you from getting 2 shot because a juiced up multi-projectile map, pack full of dudes shoot you with a dozen arrows in the same tick.

It also isn't going to save you because you stood in the poop. Most of the stuff you stand in is multiple ticks of degen, not just a one shot.
PoE is Diablo 3
Diablo 3 is Torchlight 2
Torchlight 2 is Fate 5
Do gotta agree that health gating just seems good, one shots just aren't a fun mechanic whatsoever.
