Most endgame MAPS are too large

I just completed a Canal hideout map and enjoyed it and it reminded me how much I enjoy bitesized content, such as you can find in many roguelites.

For me doing endgame maps is kinda like when I eat fastfood: each time I start a new map I am excited, I love the change of pacing and environment, the music, the mood, and the change in monster threats.

Then when I am about halfway through, just like fast food, I become numbed and it feels like I am forcing myself through the rest of the content.

Some maps are much worse than others in that respect like:

- DECAY (awful tiny deadends everywhere, hard to read the terrain)
- BLOODWOOD
- SULPHURIC CAVERNS
- HIDDEN GROttO
- etc.

On a sidenote in Diablo II there were many smaller "bitesized" content which I really enjoyed such as the smaller temples in Kurast. There were small, but sometimes very dangerously cramped areas in Hell difficulty.

POE2 is lacking that kind of content.

The atlas is so big I think there is a place for smaller maps, and let "zoomers" just do large maps if they enjoy that and give us more variety.

We need more maps that are somewhere between the size of hideouts and the larger ones, I guess the size of AUGURY and CRYPT.

What I'd like is see the outdoor maps like DECAY / GROTTO etc have smaller layouts like AUGURY.

You need to have smaller maps to have more of that dopamine flow of starting and completing something.

Obviously for people playing meta builds and zooming through everything they may not feel the slog the same way but for everyone else playing the game at a more casual pace the larger maps we have now like DECAY feel like they're really dragging on.

and campain maps and single map.. and layouts are disgusting. .

and no they need to understand that they cant add stuff to make the map fun they have to make the maps 3-5 times smaller and 10 times more open layout with less annoying stuff .
finally a sensible topic. instead of those xp loss crybabies.

yea, it totally makes no sense.

big map, slow char (not that slow if you play very certain builds.. but still slow).... worse yet... loot is mostly trash

and then................ you have readily available, purchasable arbiter fragments where people melt bosses within a few seconds repeatedly......... without needing movespeed (direct boss encounters should be banned)

not sure how these direct boss fights slow the game or economy down.
`Spent 2 mirrors on my build, but I'm only Level 98.` LOL
`From just quick sweep of your characters, toxic rain, golems .. sure, non meta... sure.` LOL
`What are divs?`
Yup, have to agree here...the size doesen't feel good.

It wouldn't be a problem if the maps are packed with way more random and interesting content but most of the time the only content is hunting yellow skulls on the map and sometimes a strongbox & league mechanic here and there.

It becomes a little bit better when we start to fully juice the maps with 3 Tablets on 3 overlaping towers.....but until we reach this point we have to play at least 100 hours empty & oversized maps hunting for the yellow skulls only.

The fact that you lose all the league mechanics if you die and have to run a empti map only to progress your atlas path doesen't make it better.

The map sizes and the map system in general are one of the biggest weakneses in POE2 atm, I hope here for a complete overhaul till 1.0...either by reducing the map size or by increasing the activity + get rid of the bonus activity loss when failing the map.

I agree with all of this. I don't play meta builds and play SSF pretty slow and carefully. Some maps (especially if corrupted where you're fighting packs that spawn from what you just killed, over and over and over) just take far too long and tedium sets in.

What I liked most about PoE1 in general is there were so many ways to play how you wanted to play. Jump in and just do a node or two in delve if you didn't have much time, or a blighted map which was only going to last X minutes, or a quick heist. I know not all PoE2 content has been implemented yet, but what is in now usually takes a huge time commitment. At least you can pause now (THANK YOU), but ways to play in shorter bursts at endgame would be appreciated and smaller maps would definitely help.
This is true.
