Equipment slots bugged

I have a shield that requires a bit more strength then I have, but it has +strength on shield. I am constantly having to switch shield between slot 1 and slot 2 because game keeps disabling it constantly. I equip in slot 1, it works for about 5-10 minutes, then it gets disabled. I switch to slot 2 and it works for a bit then get's disabled. The issue is the equipment slot it's in stops detecting the correct stats for some reason. I have seen this issue on other characters having +skill levels not show correctly from weapon unless you move it to slot 2, etc.
