What is happening with XP?

I am level 28 in aggorat against monsters level 44 getting 200xp per white kill. What the fuck is going on?

I ONLY GOT 1.8K FOR KILLING DORYANI WHAT IS GOING ON

Iirc, fight monsters within 3 levels above or below your own level. This should yield the most XP.

This is working, but also this is insanely stupid. I imagine this is in the game so that people aren't abusing XP leeching but I literally just fell behind at a certain point and was essentially gated from leveling up, and now I have to waste time re-playing act 3 to level up. This is a fucking horrible way to make people level up.

There's an XP penalty for fighting monsters outside a certain "safe zone" around your level.

In PoE1 this range was plus or minus your level divided by sixteen plus 3; so your range is 28 plus or minus 4.75.

I certainly wasn't skipping any levels actually, do not speak with certainty you falsely hold. This specific character I intended not to be underleveled on as I typically do become underleveled by a bit when I get characters to maps. There was no level I skipped except for the water ways because that level genuinely is terrible in every way.

Also, use your head for a bit. If I can defeat Doryani with a character geared and leveled for the act 2 boss, and beat him within a couple minutes I may add, what exactly are they solving with this fucking stupid and horrible approach to level gatekeeping? The 10 missing levels didn't stop me from killing Doryani or the Miller. Do you think they would have stopped me from killing Geonor? Maybe Jamanra, but the game being a cakewalk while being 16 levels under certainly isn't having a problem solved with this fucking stupid and horrible approach.

I don't know how you think any of this works, but there's literally zero chance you were clearing maps and ended up in a L44 zone at L28. That's just not how the math works.
