[Spears][Huntress] Parry + Disengage Feedback

Hi,

I find the parry + Disengage game play really fun but my main complain is that its not rewarding enough to pull it off. Not because the damage bonus of frenzy's but more so I think the combo does not generate enough frenzy charges.

1) Disengage only generates 1 frenzy by default. I think if disengage could generate 3 or even maximum frenzy charges then it will feel rewarding to do a parry + disengage as you can then use a ton of empowered attacks instead of just 1 (sometimes more depending on supports).

2) Disengage hitbox is a bit too small. Another problem with disengage right now is that if I hold my shield and parry a random enemy in a pack of monsters there is a chance that my disengage won't trigger correctly and Ill lose out on the frenzy charge. I think a wider cone would fix it and maybe more scalable with AoE.

3) No other "Disengage" type ability to consume the parry. Unless I'm missing something we are simply forced into disengage to engage with the parry mechanics.

4) Parry is a bit too risky to do on certain boss's (acts and maps). During the campaign there are some boss's that feel way to scared to even attempt to parry. The big monkey in Act 3 for example has only 1 weak attack and the rest are super rippy. The spell casters its un clear if parrying their projectiles spells would do anything and trying just gets you taking more damage. Possible solution is some sort of outline to indicate if an attack is parryable? Like instead of the monster becoming big and red. What if you could add a spark or effect during their parry window.

5) Improved parried Debuff. While I think the debuff is there just for your first attack after a parry. I think it would be cool if it lasted a lot longer. Maybe 5-10 secounds to give you a big DPS window.

6) Engaging frenzy charge mechanics should generate more frenzy's. What I mean by this is a more involved combo to generate frenzy's like parry + disengage should by default generate more frenzy's then the automatic ways like combat frenzy. I think it should be this way for all charge base mechanics in the future. More rewarding charges from more active gameplay.

This is just my take on the Parry + Disengage mechanic. Overall its a fun mechanic, it just dosen't feel worth doing outside the fact that the current meta revovles around combat frenzy buff.

I think the current power is ok, it's a optional way to play the game if you want pay attention to your screen. There is no necessity to make this powerful like "viable" builds. The reward is the fun, not be broken. For example if I need parry a boss only one time and then spam powerful skill to me would feel less fun than now.
Glad to see another parry enjoyer!

Yeah I do agree with some of your points for sure. I also think the parry + disengage combo isn’t meant to be played in end game maps anymore and you’re ”supposed” to switch to a different way of frenzy charge generation when you can.

That being said Woolie has found an incredibly innovativw use for disengage, I would definitely recommend his bleed huntress videos!

I hard agree with your second point! I don’t think disengage is an AoE at all now and it should be.

You could also make it so that you get frenzy charges per enemy you hit with disengage.

There’s a support gem you can put on any attack that does this!

For the longest time I was consuming parry debuffs with primal strikes, it was really fun and worked well!

Act 2 was the worst offender with this in my mind. The titan has a huge health pool and doesn’t seem parriable. You can parry Jamanra but the animation for the parriable attack is too close to the spear throwing one. I got hit by so many of those spears while trying to parry that I honestly quit trying and switched to explosive spears haha.

I don’t know if I think all bosses should be parriable though, maybe it’s fine that there are some bosses that are harder for some builds?
I also really enjoy the parry mechanic even tho some loud voices say its not fun and should be removed from the game.

I just did a second play through (First one was Ritualist) and and recorded one of my favorite boss fights I enjoyed the most during both play throughs (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HEQxvpQR2MU&feature=youtu.be).

I don't think its underwhelming. Its super rewarding an awesome defensive and offensive tool at the same time. And I have 0 parry passives.

It's all about how you use it. The empowered spear spells are plenty strong in my opinion. LS even is a bit over the top if you build your frenzy charges in a different way than parry.

Also forgot to mention. Some of the things already got addressed in the post above me.

But yes some bosses have to low attacks to be parried which makes Huntress feel week. Ape can be parried more than you would think. But don't do it twice in a row ;).

For the hitbox of dissengage there are 2 ways to fix this.

1) delay the disengage for a little. It will hit more reliably. (On small monsters big seem to have less issues with this)
2) use area of effect supports

Helped al lot with this issue

Holy smokes!

Watching that makes me feel like I was parrying wrong the entire time hahaha

I kinda wanna roll a new character now and try parrying every move I can in the campaign..

I play it more like a darksouls parry. Short taps of the parry button. If it doesn't trigger disengage anyway. to not get caught in shit and go back to dpsing
