POE2 Account compromised / gear stolen

Someone managed to bypass the restriction on logging in from a new location. I did not receive a Steam Guard code, by email or anything else. My email address was not hacked, since it has a different password and confirmation comes via SMS
Perhaps the issue is on the Steam Client side?
While waiting for a response from support, let's figure out how this is possible? How can you log into the client without confirmations???

I'm sad about the time spent on acquiring equipment for Poe2. I'm even more afraid of how they were able to log into the Poe 2 account at all?

A friend has just lost all his gear aswell. No authorized devices on steam. This is unacceptable.

Hey, I feel you. That kind of situation sucks hard, especially when you’ve put time and effort into grinding stuff in games like PoE2. But in the end… it's kind of our own fault, yeah?

Same thing actually happened to me once on Steam. I didn’t understand how they got in either. Steam Guard, different passwords, everything secure on paper. But the truth is, it usually comes down to something we did. You just have to be reminded by your own stupidity that not everything on the internet is safe. You can't click random links. You shouldn’t download sketchy things. Cracks, mods, “free currency” generators, or random apps that aren't legit.

It sucks, yeah. And it's not fair. But it’s also not really fair to ask, “What did I lose?” when it was us who left the door cracked open, even if just a little. The people behind support are doing what they can, and honestly, it's good enough that they’re even willing to help us get our accounts back. Most platforms would just say, “Tough luck.”
