a small change to parry that would improve huntress gameplay
|
Hello community.
Parry causes a debuff that has 2 parts: it causes the enemy to take 50% more damage for 2s and it improves certain skills like disengage that consume it. My proposed change is that the increased damage taken debuff stays on the target when the parry debuff is consumed. It still can be only consumed once to benefit a skill. This would benefit the following situations / skill combos after performing a succesful parry: -disengage -> ranged skill -disengage -> rake -fangs of frost -> creating a time window were attacking is more safe due to nearby enemies being frozen -needing to disengage out of a dangerous situation right after the parry in general, this is especially relevant if you prepared either exploding spears, whirlwinds or rapid assault beforhand (*this is explained in detail in the spoiler below)

*added explanation:
What you can do with parry - which likely many people are not aware of - is that you can prepare multiple damage effects and let them all benefit from the 50% more damage taken parry debuff. As example: Exploding spears, whirlwinds or rapid assault stacks can be prepared before parrying. Then I parry and those effects all go off during the parry debuff window and benefit from the 50% more damage taken. This is in addition to attacks I then normally use during the parry window. This unfortunately often leads to situations like this: I cast 2 exploding spears -> I parry -> an enemy forces me to retreat with a telegraphed attack -> I would like to use disengage now to dodge and gain a frenzy charge, but if I do so, I loose my 50% damage bonus from the parry, because the spears won't explode in time (before I need to disengage and consume the parry debuff) Whirlwind has a similiar issue: a natural and efficient way to leave the whirlwind is to use disengage, but if I do, I loose the parry debuff bonus damage. In all the cases listed above the player looses the 50% additional damage dealt when executing the skills as described. My proposed change would allow those combos to be fairly reliably executed after a parry and still benefit from both the extra damage and improved disengage/fangs of frost (instead of loosing either). This change is primarly intended to make the gameplay feel better / more fluent by allow the player to respond more freely to enemies after parrying and letting more skill-combos benefit from the additional damage of the parry debuff. It is not intended as statement of balance - how strong the huntress or parry mechanic is. So if e.g. Rake would become too strong with this change, it would need to be individually looked at. Getting rid of the gimmicks and set ups for everyone actually would make the whole game better. Save that shit for utility or ‘ultimate’ type stuff not a skill you want to use and need to use thousands of times given how this game is currently designed.
