Rare Mob Markers in maps.

The new change to reveal the locations of all rare mobs in a map is a damaging solution to the problem people were having.
I know exploration doesn't seem to be a strong component in peoples enjoyment of ARPGs anymore, but with this small change each map has gone from feeling like an organic, episodic adventure to a mindless job of connect-the-dots, an MMO-esque task list. Instead of picking our own paths to take we just look at the map and beeline for the closest rare without a thought. There was also the case of engaging with a rare mob only to find out that he has another rare buddy nearby, the ensuing chaos was exciting as you tried to reposition and recalculate. It got the adrenaline going, but that surprise is gone now. I also feel taking this approach will limit future content additions in regards to exploration. I strongly believe that a big part of what makes maps fun is that we don't know what we're getting in to. This was an easy solution to a frustration many people were having, but I hope the team can take the time to figure out an alternative way of bringing notice to rare mob locations. Maybe the terrain is gradually altered the closer you are to one. Light has always been a good way to lead the player so perhaps specific torches could be placed in their proximity. Possibly even bump up the number of rares along with the map size and instead of requiring players to kill every single rare, maybe just make it two-thirds are required. I know these are no where near as simple as the current solution but they would be far more admirable in the long run. At the very least, could we make this a toggle? My appreciation to anyone who takes the time to read this. I have been having a really good time in this league, Spears have been a blast and I have zero critique there. I really, really think they should add this ability for the Tactician.
It almost feels like cheating. |

Maybe a system like in Diablo3 with rifts would be good. If you kill monsters you progress until 100%. If you reach 100% the map is completed but you are still free to roam around and kill more mobs, find the last rares etc.

I don't understand why they don't just put more Rares in maps than required to complete the map.
Why? Are the devs so afraid of players getting more loot? Rares drop garbage 90% of the time anyways, why are Rares guarded like some kind of precious treasure? Is giving player a couple more chances at getting loot so unthinkable? |
