POE2 Config File Location

Has the config file location changed from: user account/documents/my games/path of exile 2/config.txt ?

I needed to delete it so it would recreate a default file but it never recreated and none of the settings changed in game back to their defaults. I can only assume it's no longer looking at that file and is looking in another location.

The config.ini is still located in %USER%\documents\my games\path of exile 2. If it's like most .ini files, deleting it does not change the settings that have been saved in your client, and the game will not automatically recreate another one just because it's not there. Instead, the game will just use the last-known good settings from your client.

If you recover the original file and then modify it, the game will see the changes and update accordingly, but if the file isn't there, it will just use your last known settings.

I tried modifying the file but the client did not update. Thus wanting to delete it and recreate it.

Odd. If you haven't already I would suggest verifying your game's file integrity to make sure there's not a corruption preventing the client from reading the INI file.

That was the first thing I did using the PackCheck.exe. I'm sure you can understand my confusion.

Yeah... not ideal but you could try a full blown uninstall, reinstall. That should clear up anything that was possibly wrong with it. Try the following:

  • Back up your loot filters (if you have any local files in there)
  • Delete the entire 'Path of Exile 2' directory in Documents\My Games
  • Uninstall the game
  • Reinstall the game
