Spectres: so much potential, utterly wasted.
This is my first forum post for a video game I've ever written in my entire life, that's how great the magnitude of my disappointment with spectres in 0.2.0 is.
The most obvious issue first: You. Can't. Disenchant. Spectres. I had to target farm THIRTY individual tier 12 skill gems (I gave up around level 50) to test out THIRTY different spectres. They ALL suck. Some notes on the memorable ones. Prowling Shade: actually great damage. When they decide to attack!! Half the time they stop attacking the mob and just bunch up next to the character, why? Plague Harvester: my very first specter! Hit's like a wet noodle. Dies in two hits to any aoe or bosses. Crested Behemoth (the lightning triceratops dudes): What an absolute JOKE. They look so sick, but guess what? They do nothing. hit like a wet noodle. Their attack animations are clunky, he does a big tumble roll thing which looks cool, and like it should knock up and do big damage, nothing. does nothing. attacks slow, walks slow, the lightning thing does 0 damage. Bloodthief Queen: Kind of like a carrier from starcraft 2, pretty cool, the swarms they spawn will block enemies from walking up to you but again, literally 0 damage and the queens themselves move so slow that you cannot reasonably expect to map or complete campaign areas with them. Perfect example of High potential, and absolutely butchered execution. Surgical Experimentalist: GGG must have watched the FubGun/RueToo/Jungroan video cuz lol, absolutely cooked. move slow, cast slow, mostly stand around watching you die. Doryani's Elite: Pretty cool til you realize the mines implant themselves nowhere near where the fight is going on and if you walk back to kite the enemies THE MINES UNBURROW AND MOVE, LOL!! THE ONLY ones I got to work in any meaningful way were the venomous crab matriarchs, and I'm scared to say it because they will probably get nerfed now. Decent damage, surprisingly tanky, and the spirit cost (40) is actually fair, so you can summon enough of them to do anything meaningful. The main issue is: the spirit cost to damage output ratio is just way off. 100 spirit for a plague harvester that hits like a wet noodle and dies to aoe damage? By the way, by act 2 cruel none of these in any number can reliably kill even the most modest of rares (takes maybe 5 minutes to kill a rare, FIVE minutes). Meanwhile my homie playing the fubgun build is rerolling from ranger to huntress to meta chase and one shotting everything with the poison arrow whatever thing. He will likely reach end game on his rerolled character before I reach endgame. I died to act 1 Cruel Geonor for like, 5 hours from 3 am til 8 am. My homie who is playing the FubGun build came and cleared it for me on the first try when he woke up. I work many hours during the week so was trying to get ahead over the weekend. I'm completely and utterly defeated. Even if they make buffs to minions/spectre, by that time economy will probably be utterly f'ed so I will not be returning this league unless my friends guilt trip me into it. Devastated by this, heartbroken even. I've never played summoner and this was the first time I was excited to try. Anyways, cya. Last bumped on Apr 5, 2025, 9:51:09 PM
