TAME BEAST

Do we have any indications if this will be locked behind using a spear?

And as an extension to this question...

If you do end up needing a spear to use "Tame Beast", would a weapon swap to use said skill be sufficient enough? By that I mean, after you switch back to your main weapon would you still be able to access the companion for battles?

I personally hope you need a spear equipped to have the beast fight for you, as it will then force me to roll a Huntress (instead of just following the power-creep). 😉

All classes can use spears. How does that force a huntress?

Not certain, but since it's a summon i think it won't be weapon restricted. Similar to the summons in occult section. Would be akward to have spear/buckler on main set and have beast buddy vanish on weapon swap. I'm just speculating though.

Yes, you are 100% right...I just figured if a spear was needed to use Tame Beast (it most likely won't be a requirement though), it would be dumb not to then choose the Huntress.

I'm very confident my last class will still be very viable (due to it being my own personal build), but also see the potential for a few of these new ascendancies as well.

Ah, I see.

I also made a pretty niche build for my infernalist that im pretty sure will work in 0.2. It's got a wasted slot in 2nd weapon set im hoping the spear will fit into nicely.

To add further context to my previous post...

For anybody interested in trying their hand at an unorthodox build, consider grabbing all the conventional crit build nodes first. These are largely unchanged from all the nerfs that are coming in the next patch.

After you feel powerful enough to handle multiple packs of endgame mobs, start grabbing up all the nodes that give % damage to rare and unique monsters. These nodes include all the bosses as well, even the pinnacle ones. I was melting bosses as fast/faster than all the YT vids out there.

Even without a single unique item, this build would still work well enough to kill endgame bosses efficiently. I did have Astrumentis, Hand of Wisdom & Action, Ingenuity, and Melting Maelstrom tho (as that is how they were downed in seconds).

*EDIT* Don't forget to grab "20% damage to rare or unique monsters" on all your jewels as well, along with another damage modifier of your choice...

% global physical damage
% elemental damage
% cold damage
% lightning damage
% fire damage
% Quarterstaff damage
% Bow damage
% crossbow damage
ect...
