Dying in a Citadel....
Never go on forums to complain but this game design might make me uninstall. I heard how great PoE 1 was but never got into it. Finally get into PoE 2. Have a lot of fun. I've spent ~100 hours, made it to 93 and after 100+ maps, I finally found my first citadel.
Long story short, I died. I then had the unpleasant pleasure of finding out that for the first time all game, if you try a map and die then it will not let you retry. No warning, nothing that the game tells you upfront, just FAFO. Up until this point, the game taught me, if I die, I get to retry without the additional modifiers like Breach, etc. and life continues on. So why for what is arguable one of the most important maps in the game, why is this different with no warning??? Not only do I have to swallow the pill of losing XP which is pretty brutal as you get into 90+, but now I have to find another Citadel for this mission. Find another one..........after spending 100+ maps to find my first one. This is beyond frustrating. Idk, this seems like such a terrible and lazy game design. If I wanted serious consequences for dying I would be playing hardcore imo. I'm new to game and like playing. I died. But the consequence of this death really makes me not want to play anymore. Yet alone, why do I lose XP when dying in a standard mode? I'm not in a world first race or playing hardcore, seems out of touch to remove XP on a death for a completely standard character. I'm prolly just pissed and being a baby, but had to say something. Good way to get new players to not want to come back. This way of handling a death during a map conflicts with every map until this point. Why would you change without telling the user?? Why would you have it designed like that at all when these citadels are sooooo rare to find. Really hope you guys look into this cuz this ain't it chief. Last bumped on Apr 26, 2025, 9:15:22 AM

first you get mad
then you realize it was all just a sign that you and your character need to improve then you realize there are actually citadels all over the map |

Take note that uniques maps work the same way too. If you fail them you can't redo them.

Considering how rare it is to find citadels I think you should be able to put in a new map and try again if you fail. I am wondering now if I have to spec out of all my boss atlas points when I find one again. I am not a freeze build so I don't have the boss frozen all the time so I have to deal with mechanics I have not seen for a while and that now all one shot.
The only citadel I have been able to find was the stone one and Doryani was very irritating to face. I did not even manage to get him to the robot phase as the combination of his moves and the annoying rotating laser comboed away all my chances. I roll away from one move just for a laser to decide to fire and kill me as the roll ends. Then I find that I can't use a new map to rechallenge the fight. This is very frustrating as I have gotten all 15 tiers of the corruption nodes done and this was the only citadel that has been uncovered. That is a lot of territory to only find one and then have obnoxious one shots remove the one that I have found. |

It can be frustrating for sure but the game actually tells you how often you can respawn, says so on the waystone and you see how many portals open. And you can play a citadel on a white map if you want max respawn attempts.
