Capped Elemental Resistances?

The wiki says Physical damage reduction is hard-capped at 90% and Evasion [Chance to Evade] at 95%.

Are Elemental and/or Chaos resistances hard-capped?

I've seen various people say they are. However I've also seen people say they aren't.

The wiki doesn't say there is, nor does the mechanics thread.

Also, resist is hard capped at 95. Doing enough damage to reflect 300k fire damage back at yourself is enough to oneshot you while wearing a Kaoms in a pure HP build with 95% fire resist.

mechanic thread

"Resistances
Fire, Cold, Lightning, and Chaos damage each has its own resistance value (eg "Fire resistance") which is viewable in the character sheet. Resistances reduce damage taken (or increase damage if they are negative), and are capped at a maximum of 75% by default. This maximum can be modified by certain skills. There are penalties to resistances in higher difficulty levels. In Cruel difficulty, there is a -20% penalty to player resistances, and this increases to -60% in Merciless."

search better.

You can have more than 75% but only 75% will work, but if you have more it can protect you from lowering resistance curses and such things.

There are Uniques, Auras, Flasks and Passives which increase the maximum elemental resistance.

I want to know if there is a hard-cap to elemental resistances. By hard-cap I mean that the game mechanics cuts it off and forces it to be below that amount. Maybe I should have made it more clear that I was talking about the maximum resistances.

The 75% is a soft-cap because there are various ways to go above it.

Go search for another thread to quote ;)

Seriously, I do not believe there is a hard-cap on resists. I really do not have the energy to go flush out my source for this, but I can give you some tips for searching. And also, maybe someone else out there remembers the various threads that point out this info.

It has to do with righteous fire builds and discussion about inner force and flasks. I am nearly positive that with the right gear (a couple uniques) and flasks with inner force, someone verified a 100% immunity to fire. (Oh they must have had the passive for increased resists, oh and purity probably). I believe they came to a total of 103% fire resist and became immune to the damage from righteous fire.

I wish I had more energy to go search this out for you, I just don't atm. I can for sure verify to you that resists go above 85%, but you want a better answer.

I hope you get one =)

That is definitely incorrect ;)

As Laellu said, you can reach 100% immunity.

Yes, but only with flasks. That said, righteous fire builds can get a constant 93% fire resistance, and with that, you only need to have 7% life regeneration per second...

...waitaminute.

How the heck does that even work? xD

The hard cap would be if you had a max roll of all res and a max roll of say fire on every piece of gear and used purity with IF. What's the point btw ?
Given how many people agree it can go above 100% I'll go ahead add a note somewhere to the wiki.

You can get 7.4% life regeneration from the passive tree and 1.5% from Vitality, you can also get an additional 1%, 2% and 6% on low life from uniques. However the extra 6% means doubling the damage you take, so probably not a good idea.

Most people use Zealot's Oath. 1K life requires 70 ES regen per second. So if you have 3.5% life regeneration you need 2K ES to break even.

you can get 103.2 % which means total immunity with the use of a flask

without the flask its 90.2%
