Arbiter of Ash Feedback
|
I've fought Arbiter of Ash a couple of times since the recent patch that gives him DR when he spawns, and I've found the experience to be very frustrating.
Let me say first and foremost that, in isolation, I actually really like this boss fight. It's quite difficult, but I think the mechanics are fun and I expect it will feel very satisfying to mastery. If this were a boss in the campaign where I could try the boss again and again with no cost, I would just love it with no notes (though I think it would be too hard to be a required boss in the campaign). Unfortunately, the Arbiter is not a boss in the campaign. It's a boss that requires you to pay about 300ex or grind a fairly large number of maps. Once you've done that, you get a very finite number of attempts to learn the fight. I've died to him I think 8 times now, and I feel like i'm still pretty far from beating him without having so much damage that I trivialize the fight. Personally, I think this level of difficulty feels great for the pinnacle boss of the current game. I just really, really don't like that you have to keep putting in 300ex quarters like an arcade game every few attempts. I makes me feel like shit when I die and heavily discourages me from engaging with the content. Maybe there are technical reasons, but I don't see a very good design reason to take away the entry fee from the player when they lose. Would it really be a problem if when the player lost, they were given back the fragments? Their value would go down on trade, but i think the player experience of practicing and eventually defeating the boss would be astronomically better. I don't really expect GGG to ever do this since they seem very interested in punishing failure, but just wanted to throw out my 2 cents on the topic. Last bumped on Jan 22, 2025, 12:45:07 AM
