Path of Exile 2 Crashing After Switching Graphics Cards (7900XT to 3070)
|
Summary:
After switching my graphics card from an AMD 7900XT to an NVIDIA 3070, Path of Exile 2 has consistently crashes the entire PC due to excessive CPU usage (known issue). The 7900XT was returned as part of my plan to upgrade to an upcoming 50 series card, and the 3070 is a temporary solution. The issue was not present with the 7900XT but started occurring immediately after installing the 3070. Steps to Reproduce: The game opens and the entire computer struggles for a minute but does not crash. I'm able to play the game for a while, but when I encounter any sort of loading screen, my entire computer freezes (no blue screen). The problem is also solved by disabling engine multi threading, but that significantly reduces performance obviously. Hardware Configuration: Previous GPU: AMD 7900XT (returned for future upgrade) Current GPU: NVIDIA RTX 3070 (temporary replacement) CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 9600X 6-Core Processor (12 CPUs) ~3.9GHz RAM: 32GB RAM OS: Windows 11 Home (Version 24H2, Build 26100.2605) Driver Version: 566.36 (latest available as of 12/5/2024) Software Used: NVIDIA App Chipset Drivers: Up to date Troubleshooting Steps Taken: Reinstalled NVIDIA drivers using DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) Verified game file integrity via Steam Disabled engine multithreading (resolved crashing but reduced performance) Checked Windows Event Viewer for error codes Updated BIOS to the latest version Last bumped on Jan 14, 2025, 2:17:32 PM
