Feedback on self casting (Comet or L. Conduit))vs. triggering
While it's true that these spells can do ridiculous base damage there is an issue with having a self casting time that has a minimum +1s cast time. If this was PoE 1 I wouldn't be bothered, but playing the game through campaign the balance of the skills are much better compared to endgame maps, especially t15+, where the monster speed and nature of del/breach/rit all incentivize mobile and fast casting builds. Having to be still for over 0.5 seconds means you will always be taking way more damage compared to using a much faster skill. Moreover, any build that can utilize these skills with frequently triggering cast on "x"'s (looking at cast on minion death comet) has such a massive gap in damage and clearing while completely avoiding the penalties of self casting.
While I've played both types of builds I enjoy the self-casting fantasy a lot more, but I also noticed that to be able to comfortably (that is how often I get close to death, regardless of clear speed) finish t15-16 maps I need WAY MORE defenses/ehp. Not only that but self-casting with such long cast times also means there's more effort and you have to "play" the game. Sure the technicalities of triggering comets frequently is cool (big props to the creativity of the folks making them), but I'm just astounded how gimped self-casting is in comparison. Self casting comet/conduit is good, but it will never be as good as triggered versions or other spells like spark. I've been thinking that if you self-cast comet or conduit support gems that reduce casting speed or add cooldowns do not apply that penalty to comet/conduit. Even if that was the case the triggered versions would still be way more powerful. Even if triggering these spells had an icd to match the casting time of self-cast it would still be better because you would still be avoiding the penalty of being rooted to cast it.
