The Runes - Soul Cores Socketing Situation - going against GGG's policy

After putting around 150 Hours into PoE2 I can 100% say that I feel we need to be able to Re-socket Runes and Soul Cores on Items. At least non Corrupted ones.

I even feel the current situation somewhat goes against GGG's own policy, let me explain how.

They said they will never bind an Item to You other than gold... but buying an item that has runes or soul cores in it feels like buying a semi bound item cause it has been personalized to a persons particular situation.

Also since the intent of the system is to fill the gap left by the absence of the crafting station I feel it is imperative that we can Re-socket the Runes and Soul cores.

Id love to hear Your thoughts on the matter :)

Kind regards,
Sith

+1

I agree.

We need a way to reset Runes.
Even if it means resetting the item to no sockets and have to add sockets on again or something.
I believe their thinking is that runes/cores are effictively like not having to roll those aspect thus making items more likely to be useable.

Like, you find an upgrade to your boots armour but they have Cold res instead of Fire res like your previous boots. Now your Cold res is better but your fire is worse, socketing a Desert run lets you make up for that.

Now it is just like the item rolled with both affixes except you were able to specifically choose one of them.

I don't entirely buy into that as it does feel crappy not to be able to change them later.

But that aside, there is an issue that they are actually more fixed than the mods are. At least you could Chaos the item if you needed a different resist for it to become an upgrade. But there's no way at all to 'fix' runes, even a risky way to attempt to fix them like Chaos orbs.

Letting them reset by removing all sockets seems like a good compromise. Then it's not free as you would need both runes/cores and to add the sockets back on.
