Where to use three fates for Trialmaster fight?

Where do I actually put the fate keys? I have all three of them and have finished the 10 trial ultimatum. I paused the game for ~2/3 minutes after defeating the last ultimatum boss and picking up the trial loot, but never left the ultimatum.
Sorry if I'm missing something obvious here... I've tried to pick up the fates and drag to the door but nothing. Hovering over the Trialmaster's Tower box doesn't expand or allow me to slot the fates. Sell them, it's more worth than the loot you'll get ;)
But if you really want to fight him, there's a door after the rewards shrine on the right side. There you can add the 3 symbols. |

Yeah, that's the problem, I'm past the rewards shrine on the right side, but can't find anywhere to slot the symbols.
