Suggestion for Improving the Loot System in Path of Exile 2

I would like to propose a suggestion regarding the loot system in Path of Exile 2. I believe that making a few adjustments to the way loot is distributed could significantly enhance the multiplayer experience and encourage more players to team up and enjoy the game together.

Current Issue

One of the challenges we face in the current loot system is that shared loot can create tension and discourage friends from playing together regularly. Often, players feel compelled to play solo to ensure they receive their fair share of loot. This can lead to players only coming together for specific boss fights when they are stuck, rather than enjoying the full campaign and map progression as a group.

Suggested Solution

I propose the following adjustment to the loot system in Path of Exile 2:

Normal Mode (Default):

Implement a personal loot system where each player receives their own drops. This would ensure that each party member gets their fair share of loot without the need to compete for items.

This system would make it easier for friends to play together, as everyone would be assured of receiving their own rewards.

Hardcore Mode (Optional):

Retain the current shared loot system for Hardcore mode, where items are visible to all party members and can be picked up by any player. This adds an additional layer of challenge and risk, fitting the Hardcore experience.

Why This Change Matters

A personal loot system in Normal mode would:

Encourage more players to participate in multiplayer sessions.

Reduce potential conflicts over loot within groups.

Foster a more cooperative and enjoyable multiplayer experience.

Meanwhile, keeping the shared loot system in Hardcore mode would:

Preserve the high-stakes atmosphere that Hardcore players seek.

Add an extra strategic layer to party play in Hardcore mode.

Conclusion

I believe that these changes would make Path of Exile 2 more accessible and enjoyable for players who prefer to play with friends, without taking away the competitive edge that some players enjoy in Hardcore mode. Thank you for considering this suggestion. I appreciate all the hard work your team puts into making Path of Exile a fantastic game, and I look forward to seeing how Path of Exile 2 evolves.

I wanted to add a follow-up regarding Permanent Allocation mode, as I feel it's an important point to address.

While I understand that Permanent Allocation can prevent loot sniping and reduce conflicts, I am personally not a big fan of how high-value items (such as unique boss drops) are randomly allocated to players. This system doesn't account for each player's contribution to the fight, which can be frustrating in multiplayer scenarios — especially during boss encounters where rare loot matters most.

Instead of relying on random allocation, I believe that a more performance-based personal loot system would be fairer. Each player would earn loot based on their own contributions during the fight, ensuring that everyone feels rewarded for their efforts, rather than relying on chance.

I think this approach would improve the multiplayer experience in Path of Exile 2 and encourage more group play beyond just boss fights.
