How Could PoE 2 Improve the Trade System?

Title: How Could PoE 2 Improve the Trade System?

Hey everyone,

I’ve been thinking a lot about the trade system in *Path of Exile* and how it could be improved in *PoE 2*. Trading plays such an important role in the game’s economy, and making it more efficient, secure, and fair would really improve the overall experience for everyone. So, I wanted to share some ideas and get your thoughts on what could be done to enhance the trading system.

---

My Proposal: A Smarter Trade System

Here are a few ideas I’ve been considering to make trading better without limiting the player-driven economy:

1. Anonymous Transactions: Instead of trading directly with other players, all trades could go through a central marketplace (a *"Trade Nexus"*). This would help eliminate any issues related to coordination or unfair practices in trades.

2. Trade Tokens: Players could earn tokens through in-game activities like boss kills, quests, or challenges. These tokens would be required to list or purchase items, preventing unwanted manipulation of the economy.

3. Dynamic Pricing Suggestions: The system could monitor supply and demand, providing suggested price ranges for items, like *“Market value: 80–100 Chaos Orbs.”* Players would still have the freedom to set their own prices, but the system would help keep the market balanced.

4. Reputation System: Players who regularly trade fairly could earn reputation points, unlocking perks like reduced trade fees or more trade slots, encouraging positive behavior.

5. Security Features: The game could flag suspicious trades automatically, like frequent price anomalies or trades with patterns that look unusual, helping to maintain a fair economy.

How Premium Stash Tabs Could Fit In

Since many of us use Premium Stash Tabs, these could be directly integrated with the trade system. For example, items in certain tabs could be automatically listed on the marketplace. This would make trading smoother while keeping the system organized.

---

What Do You Think?

1. Do you think a system like this could improve the trading experience without over-regulating the economy?

2. What would you suggest to make trading more efficient and fair in PoE 2?

3. How do you feel about integrating Premium Stash Tabs more seamlessly into the trading system?

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and ideas!

Cheers,

This is a solved problem.

We've known how auction houses (World of Warcraft) and brokerage systems (Everquest 2) work and how to implement them for over 20 years now.

The Path of Exile devs honestly believe that allowing players to easily trade for items is of the devil and will destroy the game. They also believe trading should be pretty much required to progress.

They are correct.

Without any consumption in a trade environment, you will have nothing worth anything dropping and only thigns retaining value is the best thing for that slot for a build.

If trade is fully free, asynchronous and through offline then you also need to bind the item on trade to the buyer to prevent flipping. No other solution provides enough consumption or friction into the system. The reason why HC trade is always healthy is because the items will leave the economy at a good rate through deaths, in SC this never happens and the only end result is rampant inflation. This feels bad for everyone except the ones ahead the curve - and I can guarantee that you will know if you are ahead of the curve.
Add Auction house, make it cost gold to list stuff, end of story.
auction house would make trade 10x worse. the rmt bots would just buy everything and list it for 10-100x the price its currently at in the trade site.

And yet, every other MMO has managed to solve this problem without ruining the game.

If people want to flip items they can do that. When the price goes up, so does the supply of the item (Law of Supply). People will undercut the flippers, and the flippers will be stuck with stock they can't sell.
