Mod tiers turned upside down

As a poe 1 veteran i simply dont understand why mod tiers on items all of the sudden got turned upside down. It used to be tier 1 being the highest and i would instantly be able to tell if it was a good roll, now i literally have to check every single mod on websites to see if its the highest tier or not cause as it turns out mods doesnt have the same amount of tiers either. I really dont see the reason for this change

Agreed, very silly change.

I suppose it's much easier from a game design perspective to have the lowest at 1 and the highest at X, so you can add more and more tiers at the top of the ladder without reclassing and reupdating every already existing items.

Granted, it harder to know where is the limit, and having the information in game is something you can ask for ; maybe [alt] could show the maximum tier possible.

If they end up settling with a fix ladder of tiers, nothing will stop them then to reverse it either. But I don't think it's a bad choice to consider 1 the lowest. I prefer it like that imo.
Yea it's easier to code and to think about when building a game, but it's also kinda useless when playing the game.
It would make sense as a change, if they also showed what the max tier is for that mod, and what the max tier for that mod is on the item.
PoE2 is a great tutorial for PoE1.
It's not at all hard to code the old way. You can even do it the new way under the hood if you want and just display the tier the new way with very basic subtraction: (max tier) - (current tier [new style]) + 1 = (current tier [old style])

If you did add a tier everything automatically updates this way. I guess this is the part they're trying to avoid, but I'd prefer my T1 to one day be a T2 than deal with looking at an external site every single time I see a mod to remember the max tier. I even love using the external sites, it just feels like bad design.
It's future proofing. Making the top tier "tier 1" made gave the false impression that they were the highest tier, at first they were but then higher tier stuff like ascended mods came out. PoE1 players understand this stuff already, but newcomers may not. its a simpler system once we get used to it.

*edit, i do agree it would be nice to have some idea of what the highest tier mod is like which we dont really get with this way of labeling

It's not easier to code though.

Just have tiers as they are now, but they are portrayed the other way around.

So tiers go from 1 to 7, max being 7.

On the item it's saved as 1 to 7, however when we look at it it's show as 7 to 1. Now if they increase the range by 2 it will automatically adjust itself for everyone with no extra code needed. Since the range would now be 1 to 9, and display itself as 9 to 1 for us.

It's just a matter of them showing different values in the UI as opposed to its internal representation. Representing data differently in your UI is the most basic task imaginable. There's no excuse for this, it's just badly designed.
Well i guess the solution would be adding the information needed on the item if they want to keep the current tier system. Maybe something like tier 4/7 or tier 6/12 so we dont need to check a website each time.
