Regarding Greater Jewler and Perfect Jeweler
|
Currently there's a lot of feedback on a lot of topics, so I'll interject with something I don't see anyone mentioning really.
As of today, an SSF player with about 3 characters and the basic map quest completed along with +3 to boss difficulty I have found a total of 2 Greater Jewelers and 1 Perfect Jewelers. This allows me to make 2 5 links gems and 1 6 link gem across my three characters. I think this is a little too harsh. The way the game is now, with extremely limited crafting, I think gating skill gem DPS and additional utility behind some fairly rare drop, on top of that limited crafting system is pretty strict. My recommendation is actually to ease up the drop rate of Greater Jewelers by an amount about equivalent to about half of whatever the current GCP drop rate is, but keep Perfect Jewelers at the same drop rate. I have a feeling this will eventually happen as more support gems are added to help deal with gem bloat, but in all honesty given the gearing system we have I think it's a decent idea right now. It will also help some homebrew build people feel at least a little bit of growth and power without having to hope to slam something useful out of what they find on the ground. I also don't wanna hurt my fellow trade brothers and sisters and undervalue whatever a Perfect is going for. Perfect Jewelers can remain as a chase item to incentivize continued play to get that little bit of extra dps, as I think even in the future it won't feel mandatory outside of some ridiculous encounter you people at GGG make (Cyborg Atziri?!?!?!). Happy New Year to all y'all and the forums! Last bumped on Jan 2, 2025, 8:42:24 AM

I think part of the problem here is players, especially many of us POE1 players, are used to 6-links being just a basic thing that you normally have by the end of the acts or shortly after.
Obviously the game isn't designed that way. I have two characters, my main is a witch. She has 1 6 link, and that's the dog so doesn't really count. I have a couple 5 links, but my first 2 were from vaal orbs (pretty cheap and easy way to get it). I don't know how much more value that last socket will give me, but I don't really feel like it's mandatory. If I were going up against ubers in POE1 with only 4 and 5 links I'd be in a pretty bad spot, but here it's different. If the vaal orb method to get 5 links didn't exist I'd be 100% in agreement with you that greaters need to be a bit more common. But vaal works, and has a good offset in that you can't quality it but you can still level it up. That means I only need greaters if I want to quality (so late game min/max) or I want to hit 6 links (same thing). I'm looking at 6 links like level 100, a goal to work towards but ultimately nothing more than a min/max thing. |

I did honestly forget about the vaal orb method, but I do think that existing and being an additional resource sink is a bit much. Then you have to trade off you vaals into your gems instead of your maps. I think that kind of tension is good ultimately in this sort of game, but again on top of everything else is asking quite a lot.
I do feel like a lot of this will be alleviated with time. Whether its more gems or the return of crafting to create baseline items, the removal of xp loss or the return of six portals. Or solutions no one has thought of but GGG will. The responses from GGG will be interesting for sure as the game should be a challenge, but its also asking for a lot in its current state. Not necessarily a problem, but jeez. |

Obviously they can't make them too common, since now we can have as many six-linked skills as we have skill gems, where as in the first we were absolutely limited to two/three six linked skills (chest, a two-handed weapon, and a potential third if we had it on a back up weapon). But I do think the greaters are probably a bit too limited, I found a perfect before I (FINALLY) pulled my greater... And still haven't used my perfect until I'm confident I know what ability I want to slot it on, lol.
I'm fine with Perfects being a chase item, though, reminds me of old school PoE1 where a six-link was a god-tier find. Greaters though I think could use a buff. |

For me this is a matter of Balance. If this slot is included in balance calculations it has to be common enough that you find it in reasonable amounts. If its kept outside you get power creep when players exceed the balance base line.

Vaal orb method sucks and shouldn't be suggested as the first option. I had to vaal the skill around 20 times until it gave me an extra socket. That is not reasonable.
Can you find 20 greater jewellers for one skill? Last edited by swo0plt#5433 on Jan 2, 2025, 4:30:39 AM

" Yeah, I definitely wouldn't vaal orb for a six-link. But if there's a skill that I don't care about its quality for, I would definitely vaal orb a five-link. |

I've found 5 greater and 1 perfect (SSF too), but that only after stacking 100% - 150% rarity.
Item rarity influences the quality of orbs (the chance an orb will be upgraded to a 'higher' type) and it seem to me it also influences the jeweler upgrade; lesser -> greater -> perfect, which is a really bad design imo. Also the atlas node 'local knowledge' seems mandatory for everyone. But it's also true that we don't really need 6Ls like we do them in PoE 1 When night falls

I'm playing the game for around 200 hours, have two character lvl 90+ and i didn't see a perfect jeweller yet, both my characters stills have only 5 link, they should increase a little bit the drop rate of this item.

so far have found 4 greater and no perfect. hopefully game is not balance around 5 slot gem... but it's a bit frustrating . edit: btw is a lot less frustated that's i never see a single citadel ....................................... Last edited by laurent67#6296 on Jan 2, 2025, 7:42:08 AM
