Passive Skill Tree Respec improvement Ideas for PoE2
Just watched a video from Asmongold and read some articles about people complaining that the Respec cost is too high and would like a function to be "freely respec at will". His video is "Why Everyone is Negative About Path of Exile 2". I do agree with many of his ideas, and while watching it came up with a few of my own.
My solution is perhaps overall lower respect cost a smidge, say 20%, also make scrolls of wisdom something you can stack to create a book or alternate scroll of Respec. Say every 10 scrolls can grant you 1 free Respec passive. The only way I would do a full free Respec would be in a custom test lobby scenario similar to what Dota 2 has. Create a sort of test lobby where you can put your character in it and have full set of buttons and changeable settings to mess with the passive skill tree, skill gems, and support gems. Also include test dummies and functions to spawn basic enemies to experiment with attacks and abilities, also for them to also attack you to see just how good or not good it is to stack + armor or shields in the passive skill tree. Import your character and inventory to allow you to test different weapons and armor that you own. I feel like this would be a better solution as to allow players to test paths and get a feel for what does what and see those numbers change based on what they pick. Want to see what happens when you stack energy shield or armor as you get attacked by monsters? Have at it. Or just how much more crit DMG you can do when stacked or how much beefier your minions get when focused on. Just a few ideas, I love the game how it is currently, but obviously some changes aren't all bad. Would something like this be possible to add to the game in some way/shape/form? Why or why not? This is my first post! I agree with what you said however I would go a little farther. I think for the time being respec should be free. I'm playing as Witch with no minions and have made it to Act 3 cruel. Mobs in act 3 have been absolutely decimating me. Bosses are not too bad. I'm a chaos damage only build. I really don't want to have to start over or farm for gold. In summation, please make respec free! Or do the wisdom scroll thing OP suggested.

I think respec should be free until the end of Early Access. Possibly have a different class have completely free respecs for a week or so at a time. Let us test stuff.

After nerf to respec cost - it is now very comfortable. Unless you are throwing gold into gambling or playing day trader simulator with currency exchange - you have more than enough gold now to experiment with things.

You still can't fully respec a character that bricked at anything near an affordable cost. Experimentation and creativity are unduly punished.

I came here to make a similar thread to this. I might still do it, I don't know.
I have a witch, a monk, a ranger, a woyer, a merc and a sorc. I have literally bricked all of them just trying to play around with passive skill points. I was farthest along on my mercenary playing as a lightning spam ranger with a bow. I figured "I might have enough skillpoints now at lvl 45 to actually get a grenade build off the ground. This was Act III right upon entering Utzaal. Nope. Bricked. The whole build was a Diablo IV "damage on a tuesday" sort of deal where I had to do a ridiculous amount of setup to actually hit hard with grenades. I am currently farthest along on my witch now. I just bricked my build 10 minutes ago, again, for the 4th time. I leveled the witch as a sorceress all the way up until act III because I found a lvl 22 unique staff for lightning spam. This time, I decided I was gonna see what all the hubub about monk was since witch starts closer to a bunch of dank lightning and cold nodes and I wanted to cheese the energy shield to mana conversion eventually. Turns out I sold all the dex/int gear I had (and everything else) trying to unbrick a different character a week or so ago. Now I have zero viable characters to continue leveling and generating gold with, so I'm left with a few under level 20 twink characters and my two highest level characters aren't playable because I can't free up their passive skill points. For how much work seemingly went into making the game "more approachable to new players" it still seems like the best way for new players to get into the game is wait a year for a meta to form and just follow a build guide without trying anything even remotely creative, lest you end up like I did. Having fun, and then suddenly not having fun because the game has immediately become unplayable with zero recourse besides starting a completely new character. |
