No clear method to hide/show items with controller

I have seen the "hold down and right trigger" notification to show or hide loot, but pressing this does not change the display for me.
On D2R, I had this set to pressing the left control stick, and that felt good if we could possibly:

1. Equip this utility as a skill
2. Equip both thumb stick (as button presses) with these skills
