My monk in HC just just evaporated on a essence rare

Hey guys,
I just lost my HC monk within 0.1 seconds to a rare group. Can someone explain to me what happened there?

Yes, it seems you are right, but how the hell is this balanced. Im getting one shot with 900 life + 300 ES.

I would assume thats physical dmg and it means if you have 0 phys dmg reduction you need to dodge.
Also this game is not balanced base on hc or ssf so if you take account the fact that for softcore trade player that would have been just something new to learn I dont think it too punishing

I get your concern but no reasonable answer like you are killing those mobs just for fun.

What was your plan actually, to freeze essence mobs and facetank eventually ?

Btw, I had an armor belt. Its something around 15% damage reduction.
My plan was to freeze the mobs via the bell. It works really well, if you skill into freeze buildup a bit.

I guess I realized the "yellow litte blades" too late. Never got one shot by anything so far (Silverfist oneshots, but he is a boss).

Edit: Are essence packs really that moch stronger? Didnt notice it in softcore.

that 15% phys dmg reduction against big hits is actually way less than that.
You should google how armor calculation works in poe because that number in char sheet is missleading.
Essence mobs in poe 1 where some of hardest rares you could fine and im sure its same thing in poe 2

Well, next time I will be more careful.

You could engage with Shattering Palm to one-shot or freeze essence rare by detonating shards at least. (rolling or few steps backwards > SP rare > SP one of minion > detonate. Disengage if you see something going.)

As far as I experienced, there are 2 possible scenarios.
A: you kill the mob and nothing happened.
B: you kill the mob (or get killed) and something happened.

On going telegraphed attacks sometimes just disappear once the caster dies and sometimes not. I'm not sure if it depends on the timing or if it will always happen (means that depends on the type of skills).

Sometimes since they can have random rare affixes alongside with map/global mods. You were killing 'em as you planned but didn't have enough resources to facetank.

I understand that you went aggressive from the beginning because that works at most of boss fights.
