Endgame mapping system suggestion for PoE2

By now, there are a lot of complaints related to the PoE 2 atlas system. It gets cumbersome after a while and lacks player agency. I was thinking that a different system could be used that still retains some of the sense of adventure from the current system but avoid some of the pitfalls.

The system would work like this:

- Waystones are not used for entering individual maps. Instead, they create an atlas map with around 10 nodes. The layout, content and tier of these nodes is determined by the used waystone.

- Waystones have a tier and a preferred layout.

- Waystones can be used with consumable atlas currencies (basically scarabs) to customize them.

- Add a bunch of atlas currency (scarabs from PoE1).

- Nodes on the atlas can be rolled with currency.

- Nodes on the atlas can be opened directly from the atlas map. They do not require any more waystones or set-up.

- Each node can only be completed once.

- Using a new waystone creates a new Altas map with new nodes. You can no longer access the old nodes.

Basically, you would still have the PoE atlas map, but instead of having one large map, you would have a refreshing atlas map of around 10 nodes. You would have more control over the content and biota of your maps.

I was also thinking that it could be a good idea if you could re-seal an atlas map (the set of nodes) to open later on or trade away. This would be good for example for selling citadels or special unique maps. On the other hand, it would disincentivize you from running those maps yourself.

Addition of atlas currencies (scarab) would greatly increase the extent you can customise your mapping. It would also create more interesting drops from maps. You would also only need one atlas currency for a set of around ten nodes, so they would be pretty easy to manage.

(The one death per map-system is unrelated to this. It can work either way.)

Any thoughts?
