Ultimatum blood circle challenge bugged?

Got to room 5 and the challenge was to "Sacrifice monsters to the altar by slaying them in the blood circle."

Killing them didn't fill up the blood circle, tried bringing them inside of it, outside, grouping them up, spawn killing them, etc.

Nothing I tried worked so I let myself die as I couldn't progress further.
