I am really unsure what you're trying to do with Skill Gems

As I see it. PoE 2 is supposed to be the more casual version of PoE. Aimed at improving systems from PoE 1.

For the life of me though. I can't understand what you're trying to do with this skill gem system.

I have a few questions..

Why is there even a need for skill gems, skill gem drops, leveling skill gems? Why do they need to be items anymore?

So the first issue I see. Is the sheer amount of different skill gems there ends up being. Multiple tiers, of multiple types of skill gems. It's loot for loot's sake. Not the players.

The second issue. Is the entire system is needlessly complex for what it does. You could literally add a 'gem currency' of some kind, and just make unlocking new tiers more and more expensive.

Third issue is, I don't see why we aren't allowing people to use multiples of the same support gem on different spells. I understand some of them do conflict, but the vast majority won't.

Fourth issue is. Why are they still items? It makes no sense. They're all going into a completely different UI. Not put into items anymore.

I have a suggestion to simplify this whole thing.

A Spell book. Like most MMO's have. Where you buy a skill, it's permanently unlocked for that character. This means that these 'Skill gems' are no longer items. Which gets rid of dozens of different skill/support/spirit gems and their tiers in the game.

Make skills and level ups purchasable with currency. Could be a new kind. Could be like the old games. Make them upgradable the same way.

Selecting a skill should be as simple as selecting an empty skill slot. Choosing your skill, and then a pop up comes up that lets you search and choose the support gems you have unlocked.

Upgrading should also be as equally simple. Select a skill or support gem from your 'Skill book' and then click a button next to it that says upgrade. Or something similar.

No more need to fiddle around with skill gems in your inventory. This entire process could have people equipping new skills and support gems in seconds. Compared to having to search stash tabs. This removes what dozens of "blank skill/support/spirit gems" and replaces them with something like gold, a unique currency, or even stuff like Exalts, Alterations. This removes a lot of pointless loot from the game in favour of something already in the game. Or SINGLE item that replaces them all.

I don't see the value that the current system gives to PoE 2. Especially since it's aimed at improving things. The system in PoE 1 makes more sense than whatever this is. And it was awful. I get lots of people probably have no problem with this, but I'm playing with 3 friends who all are wondering what the hell this system is. And they're all wondering why we have to do this compared to just.. Paying someone gold for the skills and having it unlocked like it would be in WoW.

And I'm afraid I'd have to admit that they're right. This system needs improvement. It's complexity where the game doesn't need it. Add in more bosses. Add in more unique items. Add in more content. Let the skill gem system rest. It's what made PoE 1 amazing. But this is PoE 2.

Maybe this is controversial for some, but some of the systems I hated most in PoE 1 was fiddling around with gems in my inventory and gear, and there needs to be a better system IMO.

When I see stuff like this in games. It's what has me looking at the game as a chore, rather than fun. I quit out in PoE 1 once I reach a certain point where I'm spending 40 minutes in town looking at a build and gems, rather than just playing.

Leave that in PoE 1 please. Make PoE 2 about killing stuff and awesome loot. With awesome skills. And not fiddling around with gems and tiny crap in our inventory that has no real value other than wasting players time.

Skill gems are no longer needing to be treated like items because the whole system has changed in PoE 2. You aren't socketing them into gear anymore. There is zero reason to continue needing to socket them in the skill panel. Make it a streamlined process please. Few clicks and skills and their support gems are equipped. Few more clicks and they're all upgraded.
