Killing palm is too slow
|
Note: The skill gem forum section doesn’t have a Killing Palm thread, and I couldn’t create it.
Killing palm is very handy in theory: - culls enemies - gives power charges - does some damage in case it’s not a culling blow However, when I use it, I always notice it has quite a long input delay, significantly longer than other attacks. The skill says it should be 90% as fast as normal attacks, but it seems that it’s actually 50% or even worse, making it feel really 💩 Thank you in advance for looking into it and fixing/adjusting Last edited by TheBalrogslayer#7574 on Dec 20, 2024, 6:51:58 PM Last bumped on May 4, 2025, 5:29:26 AM

Yes it's pretty underwhelming.

Paired with the right supports I'm finding it to be a really useful way to close the distance with enemies -- effectively as a dash skill, which can also cull enemies and provide the power charges needed for other things. I don't think it's meant to be your regular bread-and-butter damage-dealing skill. I tried to use it that way early on, alternating killing palm with falling thunder, and yeah... that sucked. After I realized that I needed something else to use as a main attack, and only relied on killing palm for charges and the occasional culling blow, the monk really unlocked for me. And yes, I'm still using Killing Palm as a utility skill.
Living the Hollow Palm life, and loving it. Stay sane, exiles!

I think since it is a unarmed skill, it uses your bare hand attack speed and not the attack speed of your weapon. Bare hand being way slower base attack speed, needing the passive points for unarmed for it to be decent.

Just bumping this as I’m wondering if the balancing team has considered this. Currently it still breaks the flow of the game. While it should feel like an epic moment executing an enemy, it feels like a wet towel 🥲

I made several posts in the past about a similar issue.
Killing Palm is too slow, when you take into account the fact, that you need it to kill stuff quickly in order to generate Power Charges to power up Falling Thunder. As a support ability on it's own however, it's fairly decent, but clunky against large waves of enemies. In boss fights, it's an amazing gap closer + execute which I always keep on characters that don't need to weapon swap. |
