Curses, Hexblast, Area Skills during Ritual

Not sure what's going on, but my skills (curses, hexblast, etc.) don't work correctly approximately 50% of the time during a ritual event. I literally have to recast curses 3-4x to see the curse marker appear above the heads of the enemies. Hexblast gets used, goes on cooldown, but does nothing, even once I manage to get the enemies cursed. These are self-cast curses, not curses applied through the blasphemy skill.

My interpretation of what's going on is that you've shrunk the Ritual area down to a tiny, tiny circle, far smaller than Rituals in PoE 1, but you've left the spell hit + collision mechanics the same as PoE 1. This doesnt work. Any trees, environmental object, or even the ritual altar itself seem to be able to block AoE skills that affect an area in a given radius, such as Enfeeble and other curses. So, if my character and the monsters are standing next to the ritual altar -- which we kind of have to be because you've reduced the radius so much -- my curses or Hexblast have a high likelihood of being blocked by the altar itself.

Maybe there's something else going on, such as the monsters having a several second immunity window upon spawning into the Ritual, but that wouldn't make any sense.

In it's current state, my build is basically unplayable with the way Ritual currently functions in maps. The first Ritual you encounter in the game, in the campaign, which has a much larger radius, none of these problems existed. It only happens in your tiny little circles you've given us to operate in during Rituals in maps, in which the altar and other environmental objects take up a giant percentage of the square area.
