I suppose to not able to progress a map if I die BUT....this happened

It seems to be the map or atlas isn't very clearly explained or is this a bug I experienced. Some things I faced

I failed a tower but it let me put in a map again

I co-op with my friend in a boss map. I died BUT she killed the boss. BUT I was able to put in another map this time with no boss inside. We cleared it and it becomes green(cleared)

So...is there any unknown things I should be aware while doing atlas mapping? By the way I'm in tier 2 map only

If you fail a map, the map lose all of modifiers, bosses etc. But you can entry again with new waystone, until you clear it.

Indeed. And Mark Roberts said in the POE2 reveal:

If you die, then the map can no longer be run and you will have to find another way around to get to the areas behind it.

This has been confusing me as I remembered him aying this but am yet to have it render a Map Node inaccessible.

Maybe something they changed last minute?

Though I am sure I have seen people on these forums mention getting blocked from hideouts etc. Was that because it was a special node like a Citadel which does get locked out on failure?

Did Mark Roberts get this wrong or it was changed afterwards? Or am I just yet to experience this delight?

Don't overthink it, they're nowhere near done w/ the endgame yet. The entire map system needs god, so everything is up in the air.

No one really knows where we'll land until they keep trying changes and finally get the "AH HAH!" moment where they push a system that's actually fun.

Well this was something he said in the endgame reveal IIRC. So not that long ago.

Dev comments aside I am just asking if this is a thing or not, as I was originally being conservative with waystones to avoid locking myself out, but so far I needn't have worried.

Seems like if it's an empty map node with no boss, Delirium etc, all you lose for failing is your map progress and xp, and you will need to use another waystone to try again. Is that right or does this change at some point?

I understand they still might change it in the future but I am trying to confirm how the game works at present.

if you open and die inside a map but another player finishes the map, so long as you haven't released (and left the map) you'll get full completion.

this was changed basically the second day people made it to maps, because there are chokepoints where you could fail a map and just NEVER be able to progress that direction. If you were super unlucky (or bad) you could literally brick your atlas with no way to progress.

Now, when you 'fail' a map node, you lose any special modifiers the node had (breach, delerium, expedition, ritual, boss, corruption, irradiation) but the node stays available to run again.
