Splinter support skills doesnt work with Scavenger Plating buff skill

The thorns damage from scavenger plating doesnt trigger the Splinter support gem. Its possible that splinter doesnt work with thorns damage at all.
Tried for 20 minutes to get enemy armor reduced from the thorns damage granted by scavenger plating.
