Map exploration rewards mechanic

A common complaint that we've seen is that some people get frustrated with map size - even with the nice checkpoint hopping features. There's also a group of completionists that enjoy a good maze, myself included.

I think that adding rewards for uncovering a map 100% the first time around might add enjoyment for both sides of the debate.

Maybe a cartography mechanic could be added to one of the NPCs, possibly the one that sells random items. The player hands over a completed map to the NPC and then receives some XP and a selection between various types of shards, with their quantity and rarity determined by the size of the map. Hard work rewarded.

Thematically, this could be the player's "share" of the loot that the NPC found using the map. Or it could be found by the NPC's nimble scavenging assistant, so the vendor stays put. The little scavenger kid runs off to the local waypoint with a map and teleports off. The next time the player turns in a map, they get the loot the kid "found" using the last one.

As a completionist maze enjoyer, I would love that. People that aren't so much of a fan of big maps might find the whole activity more worth while.

It would also open up some thematic content expansion opportunities: Scavenger kid found a secret passage. X marks the spot.

Just a thought.
