Dodge roll is a trap for mapping

It is here and we have to deal with it or make a build that works without it. Bosses: Dodge roll works to a certain degree, You can roll out of certain attacks that would kill you otherwise. The lack distance rolled and animation lock of it is very deadly in many other cases. We can animation cancel our attack and DR, why cant we animation cancel DR and attack ? Maps. DR feels like a noob trap. You can use it only in campaign mob scaling. If i try to use it in a max rolled map with additional content then i will die because of it eventually. Most often before making to the boss. Here's why : * Aggro range of packs and mob ability range. If i use Shattering palm to close the distance, then i see the next pack that already aggroed on me, full with Slammers/Casters/Chargers/Ranged/Corpse exploders or at times Shield Chargers that have a cone slam attack after the charge, I HAVE TO DR to the side or I die. If there's no enough space to side DR (narrow place, bridge), I die. If by some miracle I'm alive after i DR backwards, I'm stuck in a DR retreat loop for, what feels like, half the map. Ranged Do not have this issue since they can hit the backline. Melee need the tools to get to the backline without the +2 seconds ability time, coz often times we are already getting hit in the face >.< , which means, it it aint instant, you will get stunned, frozen, flinched and die. " I echo basically everything. I had an Augury this morning with the Meteor casters, DD casters, exploding fungi bloater things, basically every on-death or big off-screen AoE mob I could think of. Shut the game off and was done. Couple hours later...maybe I'll give one more map a try. Narrow bridge, electric on-death magic group, zoom in, kill, dodge roll back (as you do) right onto a growing patch of purple flowers, shot by a dumb wildwood archer guy I could BARELY see on the farthest edge of my 21:9. Poof. Dead before dodge roll ended. Alt-F4, uninstalled, done. There's zero fun in playing a game of russian roulette with yourself. |

" Actually, ranged has this issue as well .. unless they instantly kill the mobs. But only stormeweaver and deadeye can do that. For example my useless eye-of-winter Invoker has to cast about 8 times to kill a white mob. I can't do that. I'll cast once or twice then I have to DR. I'm lucky they'll be frozen and I might possibly kill them during that time if I'm lucky. After 300 casts my CoC comet will proc, so I could just wait for that I suppose /sarcasm. |

I like the Illusion ability Monk has. Dodge-rolling repeatedly ends up generating power charges for me and after a few seconds I can line up a Falling Thunder with 6 charges worth of clapback on it. When I'm overwhelmed, I dodge away, collect charges, Wave of Frost at a good opportunity to give myself enough time to fire off a Falling Thunder, and that typically clears out a big chunk of what's chasing me. If not enough is dead, I'll hit them again, immediately if my charges didn't get consumed, after dodging some more if they did.
Not having any trouble with anything so far, although the highest map I've gotten to drop is t8. |

" same thing happened to me yesterday on same maps. I quit after few fails and haven't logged back in at that day. There is so much bad things in this game right now and lots of people are defending it still. The best is, when I try to dodge roll the mobs are so fast, they will catch up in second so when I leave the dodge animation they immediately hitting me and I am rolling again and again and same thing happens. I am waiting on poe1 league and leaving poe2 for now. Maps are not rewarding and too punishing, bosses on maps are missing. I dont see any point going into map and hunt rares and go out. I love when I die on last rare for on death effects and rolls then the waypoint is dead. Also with current market, I see no possibility to upgrade my character for something better (headhunter costs a mirror). 5th link costs above 100exalts :D no way to upgrade even skills for a while. The grind I would need to do, does not justify the reward I will get, hence I have no motivation to play. |

I sometimes use the monk skill - jumping with a staff (I don't remember what it's called) with a stone - knockback.
In some cases it helps to get out of the encirclement or jump to the sorcerers/archers |

I forgot to add that in maps that have higher and lower terrain where you HAVE TO go around while everyone who stands on the higher or lower ground can shoot at you unimpeded AND mobs do have Leap Slam Jump that Does scale the terrain.
So the Leap Slam from PoE1 was given to the enemy while Leap Slam from the "Temu" / "Wish List" order is given to us. Here's a good example of a very common encounter in high rolled maps. 2 Rares with multiple AoE abilities in a very narrow space. 1. Jumped in with Shattering palm to close the distance. 2. Managed to land 1 hit because of the mega delay after the palm strike. 3. DRed back coz the 2nd mob spawned his AoE under me. 4.
