Increased damage on items Wands/Staves
|
So how does it work for example Im using only fire spells
Wand number 1 50% Increased spell damage 50% Increased fire damage smth smth smth Wand number 2 100% Increased spell damage smth smth smth Does those two wands will be equal? ------------------------------------------------------------- Also, Gain 20% as Extra fire dmg, description says Damage gained as a specific damage type only scales with modifiers to the new type. not with modifiers to the source damage's type (unless they're the same type) It will be like Wand number 3 80% Increased spell damage Gain 20% as Extra fire dmg will equal to Increased 100% fire damage, because they're the same type? and only point to use this prefix (Gain %) would be if you for example wanna proc ignite and using only cold spells as main damage type? The first wand and the second wand would be equal for any fire spell you cast.
The second wand will be better for any non fire spell. All sources of % increased damage that apply to a given skill are added together to determine the total amount of increased damage for that skill. |

As far as I know the first 2 wands are equal, the 3rd wand with that 20% affix is going to be a more multiplier on the final hit(?) so the more % increased you have from items and passive tree the stronger that modifier becomes.
People typically build around a single element, so you want that mod to be the same as the staff, 20% extra fire damage in this case is significantly more damage than 20% cold/lightning since your build is most likely running fire exposure, fire pen, and fire curse, which multiplies that further. 20% extra damage from that mod will always be 20% extra damage, 20% increased spell/fire damage will not always be 20% more damage, the effect is halved when you break into another 100%. Every point of increased damage after 100% total is half as effective as it was before, every point from 200% onwards even less, but that affix with 20% extra fire damage will always be worth that amount. Spell does 100 damage, first 2 wands make it deal 200 damage. 3rd wand makes it deal 216 damage (180 base hit x 1.2). This is an 8% increase over the other 2. But lets say you have 200% increased damage from the tree. Now the first two deal 400 damage, and the 3rd wand deals 380 damage + 20% extra fire damage for 456 damage. This is a 14% increased over the other two, notice the more % increased you have the better this mod starts to work, almost twice as good in this case with double the % increase. I could be wrong if its different in this game, and theres a good chance I am, but typically thats how those modifiers that are MORE/EXTRA rather than INCREASED work.
