Refund passives more easily

One of the most interesting stuff in games like PoE2 is the unimaginable variations of builds you can do - and at least IMO it's quite fun! But I think the game, specially in low level, penalize you too much for playing with it.
At around level 30 I stopped following guides/meta builds to give it a try myself, and try to come up with something unique and made by myself. The problem is that I had to spend half the gold I collected throughout the game (like 15~20 hours?). I think until you reach a certain level (40, 80?), it should cost nothing, it should allow you to experiment and play with it. As a new player (I'm not coming from PoE1), you want to experiment as much as possible and see what works and what doesn't. Right now I can probably only change my passive once again, and I'll run out of gold... Hail! Last bumped on Dec 17, 2024, 7:07:48 AM

I think it should cost something, and here’s why: people will abuse it. They’ll go for builds that work well in the early game, and then, after finishing the campaign, they’ll simply respec into a late-game build. I don’t think that aligns with GGG’s vision. If you want a build that only shines in the endgame, you should have to find a way to bring your character there—or pay a significant amount of gold to respec.
In PoE1, there were plenty of meta builds that only became viable at level 60+ because they relied on certain uniques. Guides for these builds always included leveling strategies to get you there, and that’s how it should be. However, since this is Early Access, I believe respecs should be free for now. GGG needs as much feedback as possible during this phase, and players need the freedom to experiment and test different builds. So, free respecs during Early Access, but paid once the game fully releases. |

I understand your point, even though I think there should be a balance on "it's PoE, things should be hard" and the player experience, that's why I mentioned at least early in the game it should be free so new players can experiment and explore the game better... so if it's up to level 40 or 60, that should be fine
A build needs a lot more than passive skills to work, as you said, items, uniques, gems, crafting etc - the passives at least shouldn't be a big deal. Hail!

" The thing is, GGG gave us respec options here. In PoE1 you needed Orb of Regrets. They never changed this and fully respeccing in PoE1 was nearly impossible for the normal player. That's what GGG gets for implementing it into the game: Players want even more. I'm just happy that it's in the game and that I can respec small mistakes I made. Or at least change some small nodes into intelligence/dexterity, if I need it. Fully respecing for free? Like I said, it's okay during EA, but after that people should carefully think about what they want to play, otherwise they have to pay gold or start a new character. |
