Sorcerer/Witch skill availability is lacking.
All the other classes can dip into the elemental/occult skills, but it doesn't work the other way around. The sorc/witch can't dip into other trees, as those trees require an equipped martial weapon.
Here's what I would like to see: Make a wand skill page, and a staff skill page! Wand can be default witch weapon, and staff can be sorce! Just make the wand/staff skill pages be spells too, and select PoE1 skills with with higher damage/larger effect or more utility. The current elemental/occultest skills could be changed to be simple spell attacks, and the wand/staff pages have the channel and buff spells. Plus, it creates a natural way to limit Cast on X spells. This would bring those two classes in line with all the other classes in terms of skill selection. -- Also, every wand/staff should have some +spell level. Lacking? Almost non-existent for Sorcerer. They literally just revealed that they are going to flat out nerf freezing for cold builds making cold builds virtually unplayable entirely.
They are making the ability to create freeze build up be even harder to freeze build up if something has already been frozen once causing anyone using frostbol + coldsnap combo useless, which is by the way the main basic learning point of the game to use for starting off with any decent cold build. Can't really do fire cause fire is so separate from one another in the list of skills by the time you get flameblast it's barely relevant or useful and cast on freeze builds or any trigger gems are useless from the last patch. So we can't even get a duration buff to how long enemies/mobs can be frozen? Cause honestly, most powerful resistant mobs can almost insta-break out of freeze if they haven't noticed during any testing. So a basic 4 second freeze windows is abysmal when now we can't even keep them frozen with freeze build up, so 90% of the sorcerer's passive tree should be deleted and re-created so we can have USEFUL abilities and points to use. I don't see what "build" we are supposed to come up with out of thin air when now most of anything for a sorceress just points to quit and go to minion this and minion that or copy and paste Lightning builds till those finally get a nerf. I had a build going good was just picking up even after the trigger gem deletion nerf and now, Frostbol + coldsnap builds are just completely gone. Meaning I have no character at this point unless I move over to a different CLASS! I literally just ascended and now I've gotta delete and start over for no point all over again. |

You can equip the other weapons. And spells don't require a weapon type, so you could use the spells with the other weapon equipped.
You can get the stats through passive nodes just like everyone else. You are choosing not to play that way, despite being allowed to. Also, there are wand/staff skills. They are on the weapon. |

" I think you're overreacting a bit. They haven't even released the details of it yet. Right now it's pretty ridiculous being able to just chain freeze anything so that it doesn't move for more than 10-20% of the fight. The same exists on stun buildup.
