Giants Blood was a dual wielding trap
I saw Giants Blood on the tree and was elated to be able to dual wield two handed maces. I thought of all the possibilities for a high damage Earthquake stun build. Once I was near the end of act 3 I finally got enough strength I put on two great maces and proceeded to finish the story and do maps up to tier 3 with those exact same maces. However once I got to tier 6 maps and felt like I was doing underwhelming damage for a 274-399 dmg mace and a 160-333 dmg mace I did some digging, not only did I not get the damage of both maces, I GOT LESS!
Apparently the game penalizes you with a 30% less damage for dual wielding, combined with the only .03 increase in attack speed I was effectively crippling myself for no reason. As much as I hate nerfing regular dual wielding I understand it dominated poe 1, however, giving me an extraneous 3x multiplier for my stat requirement and THEN reducing my damage by 30% for thinking this was a dual wielding node for warrior is a massive kick in the teeth. Please add "dual wielding two handed weapons do not incur a penalty" to the node, as there is quite literally no reason to dual wield two handed maces otherwise. Much worse is there seems to be only a single dual wielding node on the entire tree, like actually? Please someone help get this to the devs pronto as this has got me so damn demoralized it's not even funny, the game is already harder as is for melee, please don't bully my buff karui boi any further. There are still classes missing that have dual wielding:
Shadow and Duelist Duelist is str/dex based so closer to the warrior class and had most dual wielding skill tree nodes in PoE1 __________________________

you are still considered wielding a twohander, you have those nodes to play with, I'm using giants blood to wield a shield because survivability is just that important. I highly doubt this tree is final as parts of it is cluttered and other parts are seemingly empty.

Thats what I resorted to, but I'm not happy about it, hopefully when duelist comes out I can live out my fantasy with Giants Blood and iron reflexes. I'll name him "Not a Warrior™"

Perhaps I am missing something because I have not tried DW, but aren't the skills with 30% less DW damage the ones that also hit with both weapons at once? As such you deal 140% (70+70) compared to single-weapon. Getting double damage on those skills from DW would be obviously broken.

I mean when I go to 2182 dps for one mace, to 1386 to 2 maces, that doesnt seem like i do more damage with 2 maces, in fact I do much less. so it's not even taking into account both weapons, im just losing out dps on 1. Theoretically even if I have 30% less damage if I hit with both weapons I would be doing more cause I would be doing almost 2x damage, so this is not the case.

" Just a note, on the skill gem screen (G) that number isn't DPS, it's damage per hit. |

for earthquake it shows as dps, I know cause rolling slam shows DMG as opposed to DPS, my damage right now for EQ is 2866 wheras the dps is 2178

I think this is more of an issue with the DPS/Dmg tooltip than the ability itself. I checked myself and it looks like the tooltip you see when you have just the skill gem page open is only giving you the damage/dps for your Main-hand only. It just not adding the values from the offhand hit to the tooltip but when I tested it looks like it is actually hitting with both weapons and doing more overall damage than if I only use a 1 hander.
This is very misleading and really needs updating on GGG's part because it will make many people not even consider dual wielding if the very obvious in-game tooltip makes it seem like their damage only ever goes down by dual-wielding. Last edited by Deadmen626#2348 on Dec 15, 2024, 3:36:06 AM

" Sigh... Ascendancies really shouldn't have been tied to the freaking classes. There is what, 1 skill that's visually locked to it's ascendancy which is Demon Form. But then it wouldn't hurt them to make a male version for it. Worst feature of PoE1 and they carried it over. |
