Portal shenanigans between Act 1 Cruel and Act 3 Normal

I reached Clearfell Encampment in Cruel and decided to go back to Aggorat (Utzaal Past, Act 3 Normal) to do the Blood Sacrifice side quest. After clearing a good chunk of the map I wanted to go back to camp to sell some items. The teleport portal I create led to the time gateway that exits into Utzaal Past, next to the zone Waypoint. Going through it took me to the Utzaal Present Ziggurat Encampment once. But when I went back through it (hoping I'd get pack to Utzaal Past where my teleport portal was), instead I was taken to the Riverbank in Act 1 Cruel. So I had to rush it and re-kill the boss to reach the Clearfell encampment Waypoint, which was able to take me to Aggorat (Utzaal Past) waypoint, where my instance was still up. Otherwise I would have had to redo the whole thing all over again. After this I was unable to return to Utzaal Present from the time gateway in Aggorat Past. It always plops me on the Riverbank in Cruel.

Update:

Apparently after you beat the game you can use the waypoints more effectively and I was able to complate the quest
