Trials Feedback: Honour system issues
I'm loving the game, apart from the Trials, mainly regarding the honour system.
I think I understand the reasoning behind having honour but, for me anyway, it makes Trials become extremely frustrating. Here are some suggestions; 1. Remove honour completely. 2. Or, remove honour completely and replace with a simple system where you fail the trial on death or X number of deaths. 3. Or, keep the honour system but remove it for the boss fights. yeah it is incredible how this could even be considered as a solution for ascending by developers.
why did you have thorns and shield skills in the game if you add a progression system that falls apart as soon as a character wants to use any skill that's not burst damage or ranged? the solution being "you get more honour based on your survivability" is ridiculous unless my health regen works on honor as well. i basically have to completely respec and use different skills just to be able to do the act 2 trial, as i went for a regenerating thorns build that uses shield skills and armor break. might as well delete those skills or put them at level 50+ and replace them with some of the fun stuff gated by levels |

Completely agree. It's the absolute worst part about Sanctum/Sekhema and it's the primary reason I wouldn't touch the mechanic in PoE 1 after trying it the league it was introduced. The "honour" system is terrible game design for a game like this.

One idea I read on Reddit seems like a perfect compromise.
Essentially keep the honour system but only tie it to the rewards you get, not to being able to ascend! Brilliant idea. E.G. The more honour you have at the end of the trial, the better loot rewards. But if you finish the trial, and you've lost all your honour, you still ascend (but no loot). What do people think of this idea? |

If we lose all honor fighting a boss, let us still kill the boss for loot. Just don't give us points for ascension.

The honour system feels absolutely awful as a warrior. Especially with how slow everything you do as a warrior is, it feels like the honour system is there purely to punish your decision to play this class/this type of build. It basically just says sorry your character is no good here and there's not really anything you can do about it, but also this is basically mandatory as your ascendancy is gated behind it (thankfully chaos trials exist at least and are much better).
Of course you can hyper outscale the content to the point where you can one shot everything, and stack honour resistance, which then causes the trials to be somewhat doable, but even then you will still take incidnetal honour damage simply by virtue of being melee and having to be near things to kill them. This would be okay, except that it is pretty difficult to regain honour once it's gone. Also no hit run on a warrior for the chest piece I'm not sure is actually possible unless you convert it into a ranged build somehow. That might be fine that some builds/classes cannot do this, but it really just feels like if you choose to play a warrior (in the classic melee sense - i.e. actually hitting things at close range) you are suffering many downsides and not gaining any upsides mechanically speaking. Not exactly sure why this is something that the devs think needs to be punished so heavily in almost every area (damage, survivability, action speed, movement speed). Trials of chaos are a much better expression of this type of roguelike gameplay, since your build is still allowed to actually function in them and the modifiers are interesting to deal with rather than just frustrating.
