1-death Maps - intended? Map Device spawns 6 portals...

So, I had read people's experience so far about getting to maps, and I knew I was going to feel this way when I got here, but here we are.

I just unlocked the map device, did my first map, was nearly done it, and due to some offscreen chaos darts firing at me from a bunch of porcupines, died before I could react to it happening.

Opening the map device spawns 6 portals, but dying once closes them all and you lose the map.

This feels like absolute garbage, and I would honestly rather not bother with mapping if this is how it's going to be.


If this is the intended design - first of all, please change that.

Secondly, if it's intended, only spawn one portal because it's communicating the wrong information to the player by spawning 6 as we'd expect from PoE 1.

Thirdly - this should not be the baseline design of these maps. Especially coming from the campaign where you effectively have infinite tries to get through areas via checkpoints (with the "cost" of respawning monsters), it's a giant wall to hit to suddenly lose the whole map because of a single death.

It's a truly, truly bizarre and overly punishing design choice.
