Trial of The Sekhemas - Instant Failure from Minor Affliction

I was in Room 3 of Test of Will (Monster LVL 63). I had completed a trial which let you choose a positive and a negative outcome.

I chose Orbala Satuette (You have 25% more maximum Honour) and a random minor affliction. The random minor affliction I got was Shattered Shield (You have no Energy Shield).

When the affliction applied, I instantly failed at the shrine with no enemy around. My ES and Honour had turned to 0 and I still had 1223 Life.

My guess is that while removing my ES the affliction also removed ?some amount? from my Honour. I believe it shouldn't work that way but I could be wrong. I understand that damage received impacts ES and Honour but this affliction is not damage (it is a status) so I think it might be a bug. I also believe it would be pretty bad design if a random affliction could just make you fail instantly like that, so again I guess it is a bug.
