Minions and Aggro
|
Hello GGG
Hopefully everyone know's what aggro means in this context, the ability for a player or minion to engage a monster's attention and keep it. Right now, minions have two major problems. First is pathing, but I've submitted that in a separate report, so let's focus on aggro. Simply put, minions not only do not gain aggro except in rare instances from what I've been able to observe, but they are not even on the monster's radar. It is as if they do not exist at all, which is wildly unrealistic and silly. Imagine you've a group of threatening undead barreling down upon you and all you do is tilt you head to the side to see what's next. I'm joking of course, but things are not far off from that. As an experiment, in several pulls I just hung back, did no damage and left everything to my minions. Even though they were far closer to the monsters than my character, and even though I had not cast a single spell or even moved toward them, they still ignored the minions already on top of them and made a beeline to me. Ranged monsters are the same, shooting at your character whether you made a hostile move or not. This defies all the aggro rules I've ever known in games, so the question poses itself - what's going on? And why? Why, for example, do we have Skeleton Brutes? Why offer a big, tanky minion if the minions will be ignored? The aggro table (if indeed there is one) needs serious revision and monsters need, if not taunt, then all least threat relevance to the monsters. All things being equal, the closest enemy should get aggro and after that, damage multiplied by some sort of threat evaluation filter, but that's not the state of the game. As a summoner, I did not think I would need the same level of CC and mitigation options as, say, a Ranger or Sorc, but with minions unable to attract monster attention and unable to walk through doors (not an exaggeration, during the Mastodon Badlands boss fight, I was alone against the bosses for an entire Revive cycle, as all my minions got stuck and died at the entrance to the arena), I am designing my char as a survivalist (not easy as the POE-2 passive tree does not offer the same level of power as POE-1). Thanks for listening and as always, I am loving the game. Please don't mistake my criticisms as anything but constructive attempts to improve this game with a developer I trust a hell of a lot more than the triple A folks these days. I think its okay that some monster understand their situation, that killing the witch is the way to go instead of worrying about the minions.
But those monsters should be the smart ones. its kinda wierd whem some random beetle on the middle of nowere understand this concept. |
