The Loot Buff Wasn't the Right Answer to the Problem
|
The problem prior to the loot buff. The players couldnt get gear, they were running around under powered and getting wacked fast.
The problem post loot buff. The players are dropping yellow gear and are overpowered for the early game and early map content. The solution isn't drop more loot, especially higher rarity. The solution is to drop more currency. Two things were removed from the game which cause a huge problem with the game; namely scouring and alteration orbs. Alteration orbs allowed a player to farm for alt orbs by selling identified magic items to vendors and then roll their gear to get what they needed. When these are removed a player needs 900 pairs of boots to try and get movement speed and thus if they aren't dropping there is a problem. Scouring orbs allowed a player to clean an item they got the wrong afixes to in order to start over rather than tossing the item to a vendor. Since you cant scour an item you need another pair of boots for your armor type which is one of six armor types and so you are stuck. Ruthless isn't really ruthless because of item drops but because of scarcity of currency. POE2 is ruthless in dropping currency but actually even worse because every item is a one shot attempt in a huge RNG pool. Change the loot drop back. Reintroduce ALT orbs and let them be farmed like POE1. 1. Make Unidentified Magic item: Disenchant to Alt shard. 2. Make Identified Magic item: Disenchant to Transmute shard for certain bases, and Augment shard for other bases. 3. Make Rare items Disenchant to Regal Shard. 4. Drop more shards from rare and unique mobs. 5. Roll back loot drop buff in most places. 6. Make items drop with a range of stats from this tier to the tier above to make them valuable and with a range of quality. Edit 12/12: Just by the numbers to get movement speed on the boots the boss has to drop armor. Then he has a 1 in 6 chance of dropping the boots and a 1 in 6 chance of dropping it for the right armour base. Ignoring that he could drop a weapon or ring, I have a 1 in 36 chance of dropping boots of the right base. Now assuming there are 50 possible modifiers that could roll on the boots with a transmute I have a 1 in 50 chance that the boots roll move speed with a transmute. This equates to a 1 in 960 chance to get move speed boots so I have to farm 1800 boots to get it. Thats the same as a 6 link fusing in POE1. And this is just for a single mod. If I want move speed and energy shield, I am in 1 in .... A LOT ... chance. The current crafting system means POE is just luck gambling. I agree. If I had more crafting materials then I wouldn't need loot drops. If there was an easy way to farm a re-rolling orb then I would be happy. I think ive seen 1 so far and im on act 2 cruel.
Its brutal trying to farm yellows for hours just to get another peace of junk that gets immediately salvaged. Its a very anti-fun cycle. |

Very much agree. Currently even the awkward "crafting system" became even less relevant because right now it's much more plausible to find a good drop than to roll a good item affix by affix.

I agree a crafting overhaul would have been better, but also much more complex. Players weren't waiting for that, so they fixed loot and compared to doing nothing it's infinitely better.

Rather than alt orbs I'd rather see an increased drop rate of the existing crafting currency so you still chase after good white/blue bases to craft up and not farm alt orbs.

" Here's the thing, this isn't actually really happening either, yellow gear is still super scarce and finding an upgrade in a whole act is still a rarity. The most common source of gear upgrades is still checking the vendors every level. But yes, the most correct move would be to completely get rid of every crafting system in the game and rebuild the entire part of the game from scratch with an entirely never philosophy around items, and determinism. " No because reasonable bases still don't drop, and the existing orbs and systems aren't crafting they're just extra drops, it's not interesting in any way compared to just upping loot drops. Listen, we need to stop calling anything in PoE 2 crafting it's not and once we get that out of our lexicon we can stop fooling ourselves about what's in the game. The problem is, people want to fix it, but sometimes there's not fixing things. No one wants to give to feedback "start over" but that's where we are. PoE 1 got away with not having anything that resembled crafting by dropping millions of rerolls on items so you can loot 1000 of the same item in 5 minutes, and you only bothered to do that on ultra endgame items anyways. If you want to have a good system it needs to be super abundant and not random. Last edited by j33bus#3399 on Dec 11, 2024, 7:33:54 PM

" Clearly we have a different view of crafting. Furthermore, random items it the reason people stay in the game and don't simply blast through content, maps, forum whining and quit. I have crafted heavily in POE1 and clearly you haven't and that's ok but you don't have the POE perspective. Other games (no, I am not saying it) are not POE. I think POE1 crafting in 90% brilliant. At all levels you feel like you can craft gear, not just random drop it. If you want to farm you can do that as well. Its choice. |

"This is what I'd like to see instead of increased item drops. When a good white/blue base drops there's a chance to make it into a great piece, but all items should drop much less while currency drops stay buffed like they are now. |
|
" The problem is without alt orbs that one item you dropped was a one shot attempt and in a mod pool of 200 mods, the odds of you getting movement speed or some other desired outcome are 1 in 200. So I disagree. |
