Screen freeze but game still runs
The screen will occasionally freeze frame but the game continues to run. Sounds continue to play. From the sounds I can hear I can use skills, I can move, Monsters will continue to attack. I can still close the client.

This just happened to me as well. I'm using an rtx 3080 in windowed full screen mode with the graphics settings max & dlss on quality. I had been playing for probably 2 hours and was in Ogham Manor, i stopped to create a skill and equip it but when I clicked the skill on my bar the game screen froze. I could move my mouse cursor around but it wouldn't interact with anything.
edit: A similar thing just happened to me again while running through Vastiri Outskirts. the game screen froze but my character/monsters still move, music still plays, etc. I went to pull up windows event viewer on another monitor and my character moved a little, then I recieved a pop up that said Exception: [D3D12] Failed to create resource for texture [] and when i click ok the game closes. Also, this error has happened to me once while browsing the microtransaction shop which i've already made a post about here; https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/3631099 edit2: It just happened to me again while fighting a rare monster in the Traitor's Passage, about 2 hours into a session. I tried verifying my game files & steam downloaded something but i did get the texture error again so i guess that doesn't help. edit3: It just happened to me again in act 3. I was in the sandswept marsh fighting a rare monster, a few hours into a session. edit4: It just happened to me again in act 3. I was just standing in town after selling some stuff, a few hours into a session. edit5: It just happened to me again in act 3. I was fighting a rare monster in the Infested Barrens, 2 hours into a session. As an aside a large portion of my map become covered again after i relogged. All of the monsters were still dead, but I had to uncover the area again. Last edited by Kumaika#9271 on Dec 21, 2024, 12:19:04 AM

Happens a lot since 1 week, idk what changed. I didn't update my GPU drivers, chipset, no Windows update, anything.
Funny thing is when it freezes I hit Windows Key and it unfreeze, but it happens so often it's game breaking during boss fights. I've tried everything, to lowest settings possible, to exclusive fullscreen, fsr, xess, with and without upscaling, dx11, dx12, vulkan, nothing worked. I hope they come for a fix because it looks like it's widespread, not everyone talks about it, I know 2-3 streamers that have this problem too. They all have an AMD Ryzen CPU 5000 or higher. Doesn't have any problem with any games except PoE2. I hope we have feedback from GGG... as of now radio silence. Here's my spec: W11 24H2 CPU 5800X 32GB 3600 DDR4 GPU 6800XT 1080P 144HZ |

This has been also happening with me since launch and happens quite often, maybe once every two hours. Screen freezes but the game keeps running in the background, sometimes it crashes soon afterwards but sometimes not. I actually once finished a bossfight with a frozen screen because I could still hear the sounds but... Not optimal. Sometimes I also just straight get the error "[D3D12] Failed to create resource for texture []" and game just crashes.
PC specs: Windows 10 13700k 4090 32 GB DDR5 6000Mhz Latest Nvidia drivers installed None of my friends have the same issue so hard to say what causes it. |

Update: I switched from DX12 to Vulcan and my freezes and crashes stopped completely. Been playing for 2 days now without any issues. Hope this helps someone.
