Stand alone launcher and steam

I'm having the same problem as alot of people with the game being linked to a 2nd account, I see people saying if you download the launcher it should work, but if I get the launcher and the game is installed through steam will I have to download it again? My internet is not that great so that's another night of waiting for it to download...
