Good luck naming your character :(

The game is great so far, im loving it. Its insane how impossible naming a character is, EVERYTHING is taken. I tried multiple names using every alt code variation possible, dozens and dozens of names. Its day 2 and I cant name a character, just seems pretty goofy.

Agreed, it's a very outdated system from 90's/early 2000's.
No reason at all these days for global naming locks especially with the the already known behavior of bots, name ransoms/auctions, etc.
It's just dumb and causes unneeded stress and annoyance for new players to the franchise.
+1 on this one - I stayed up late for the launch, reserved my names, then missed the database wipe as I had to sleep and lost the names anyway XD
Yeah, same, just an annoyance that I've seen actually already driving players away before giving the game a chance

Already requested a refund from Steam due to this very issue, after just wasting time trying to find a character name that I deemed playable with. Why any multi-player game these days still has a platform unique character name restriction, instead of tying them to player account, is beyond me.

Totally agree with what everyone is saying here about the character naming, this is stupid by design and the only thing that this is going to do possibly in the long term, even the short term is drive away a lot of the playerbase.

It would be very sad to see this happening to such a good and enjoyable game, they really need to rethink the character naming system out and get this sorted as this will not benefit the game in any way for the long term
I just realized someone registered most of my character names, which I had been using in PoE 1. That is annoying; all the names come from D&D games with friends (who also play PoE), so these names are rather personal.

Oh, and all the characters holding the names are level 0. No one is actually playing with them. Someone just wanted to reserve the names, for some reason.

This could have been better designed.
Anyone know if there has been any posts of note from the Devs if this will change upon full release?
I hope they do something about this soon. I don't know how many characters I want to create with names like "afkhwnen".
I sure hope they fix that.

I have a friend who isn't really motivated to play PoE 2 because someone "stole" his D&D character names (which he had in PoE 1). And of course, the characters are all level 0, no one is actually playing them.
