Trying to link steam account but unlock process ?

I'm trying to link my Steam account that I used to purchase Path Of Exile 2 Early access with this POE account.

However, I'm getting the following message:

"

You cannot add this login method to this account.
You must complete the unlock process before continuing.

The unlock process is unclear and not well documented.

was having the same problem...

Had a GGG account from way back when. Merged it to a Steam account in 2020. Uninstalled PoE proper install and only played from Steam install.

Fast forward to PoE 2, can't connect XBL or PSN due to locked account, but no issues signing in to PoE or PoE2 from Steam.

To fix this I installed the PoE PC installer from GGG directly, logged in with my email address, and boom - locked account message with a new email to unlock.

After this, all was well and I was able to link XBL and PSN as expected.

Went ahead and deleted the non-Steam PoE install to go back to using Steam for my PC...

Downloading the PoE2 PC installer requires installing the game all over again. 86 gigs of HD space wasted.
There must be an easier way.

Unfortunately the stand alone client is the only way. Just went through this myself.

Haven't used this account since 2014.

Alternatively if you have PoE 1 installed still, logging into that should also clear the lock.
