Support gems gone missing

So after socketing 2 support gems on my char "Ocampa"

(Controlled destruction + Concentrated effect) in my skill "Lightning bolt" (coming from a staff) and after switching staff, the 2 support gems disappeared.

From my understanding they should go to my inventory which they did not.

I had a similar issue. I equipped a new staff with a higher skill level and I believe I sold the old staff. I don't remember whether I disenchanted or sold it. I think it was about 1 to 2 hours after we could log in. The support gem associated with the skill on the old staff (Penetrate) disappeared instead of being sent to my inventory or appearing on the new higher level skill from the new staff.

I was playing on the Steam version with an XBox controller if that is relevant.

exact same thing happened to me,

sold the weapon directly from the character, support rune gone...

Didn't notice and missed the buyback time so no clue if that would solve it.

I tested with another weapon, and if you unequip to inventory it removes the support gem.
So it may be an issue selling directly, maybe.
