Quarterstaffs - Are they martial weapons?

I put iron runes in my monks quarterstaff, and I am fairly sure they are not increasing the damage on the tooltip.

Is this a bug with what is being displayed or is it not working as intended, or are quarterstaffs not martial weapons and it is working as intended?
